Prime Time Visit

Prime Minister MARK CARNEY paid a visit to our City by the Sea yesterday. CARNEY and local MP ERNIE KLASSEN made the rounds locally stopping by White Rock city hall to visit Mayor KNIGHT then it was off to a local coffee shop to check in with the local Liberal Party Riding Members.

The afternoon wrapped up with a quick walkabout along the waterfront and a visit to Canada's Longest Pier. The newly released federal budget has earmarked restoration of our iconic pier as a priority. Thought the budget has not yet been passed, CARNEY'S visit bode well for federal money coming to our community.

Buena Vista Avenue Active Transportation Project

The City of White Rock is upgrading a stretch of Buena Vista Avenue, from Johnston Road to Best Street, to improve safety, accessibility, and infrastructure reliability for all ages and abilities.

The project includes:

  • Street-level improvements to make walking, rolling, and cycling safer and more accessible

  • Coordinated construction to minimize disruption and maximize value

Community feedback will help shape the above-ground design. Depending on input, improvements may include:

  • New sidewalks, crosswalks, and curb extensions

  • Accessible features and landscaping

  • Either a multi-use path (shared space to facilitate walking, cycling and rolling) or a dedicated two-way bike lane with a sidewalk

Turning Up The Heat

Dozens of protesters took to Johnston Road yesterday in front of the proposed site for a huge housing project @ 19th avenue.

The proposed housing project will be mainly affordable housing and some market rent. the rub for local residents is the facility will also contain a Comprehensive Care unit. That unit will be used to help get drug addicts off the street and back to a normal life.

Former Surrey and Safe Surrey mayoral hopeful for 2026 DOUG MCCALLUM took advantage of the gathering to make political inroads throwing his support against the housing being built in the currently proposed neighbourhood. MCCALUM directs his support directly against current Surrey mayor BRENDA LOCKE. Surrey mayor BRENDA LOCKE.

Thought For The Day

Today's Video

The Grey Cup runneth over; it’s full.

It's the oldest professional football championship in North America, first awarded in 1909.

It predates the Super Bowl's iconic Vince Lombardi trophy by 57 years.

Nine rows and 12 columns take up the entire 34-inch barrel on Canada’s legendary sports trophy for the Canadian Football League (CFL), with more than 3,000 champions immortalized.
