Every April, millions of Sikhs world-wide celebrate Vaisakhi Day, a day that marks the establishment of the Khalsa order by Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji (10th Sikh Guru) in 1699. Considered one of the most important days in the Sikh calendar, Nagar Kirtans (community religious parades) celebrating the event are held in Sikh communities around the world.

The largest Vaisakhi Parade in the world occurs in Surrey, where approximately 500,000 people attend the annual Surrey Khalsa Day Vaisakhi Parade.

The day-long celebration is the largest Khalsa Day (Vaisakhi) Parade in the world, that draws in excess of 500,000 guests across cultures and religions expected to attend.

The Parade begins at 9:00am at the Gurdwara Sahib Darbar (12885 85th Avenue, Surrey) and travels along 124th Street, turns left onto 75th Avenue, continues on 76th Avenue onto 128th Street then returns to the Temple at approximately 5:00pm.

Vendors offering free food; music and festivities occur along the Parade route, but due to heavy traffic organizers encourage attendees to walk to the festival area. There is no parking in the area of the event.

What's On Your Mind

CBC morning radio host STEPHEN QUINN made the trip to White rock on Wednesday to gauge what is on the mind of the voters in the upcoming federal election.

The CBC crew set up shop outside of the Presbyterian Church where the ALL candidates meeting was taking place and asked South Surrey/White Rock residents "What Matters To You?"

Thank You - Good Night

Our SURREY EAGLES the defending BCHL champs were defeated last night on their home ice by the ALBERNI VALLEY BULLDOGS.

Home Depot Cash and Carry

The South Surrey Home Depot was robbed mid day yesterday with the armed suspects driving away at high speed.

They were pursued and involved in a crash with police vehicles in Langley that reportedly injured two officers.

The four suspects were all arrested at the intersection of 36 Ave. and 200 St.

UPDATE:

Surrey Police Service (SPS) and RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) are advising the public about a robbery that occurred in the 2500 block of 160th Street in South Surrey on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at approximately 12:45 pm.  At this location, a male and female exited the store with a shopping cart full of tools that had not been paid for. When confronted by a staff member, the male suspect produced a handgun, and the pair fled in a blue Toyota Matrix.

The investigation into the incident continued the morning of April 10 when the suspect vehicle was observed the next day in Langley. Various resources were mobilized including RCMP SPOSU Strike Force Target Team (SFTT), RCMP SPOSU Auto Crime Target Team (ACTT), CFSEU Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET), Integrated Police Dog Services (IPDS), Langley RCMP and a police helicopter.

Attempts were made by police to stop the suspect vehicle. Unfortunately, these attempts were unsuccessful, and the suspect vehicle was ultimately involved in a collision at 200th Street and 36th Avenue. The collision involved the suspect vehicle and police vehicles. A secondary collision occurred at the scene between an unrelated civilian vehicle and a police vehicle. The driver of the civilian vehicle suffered minor injuries and is under investigation for impaired driving.  Two police officers were taken to hospital as a result of the collision and a suspect received treatment for injuries unrelated to the crash. Four individuals were arrested at scene.

The investigation into the robbery and the subsequent incidents is on-going.

Some Candidates Meeting

Though it was billed as an ALL CANDIDATES MEETING yesterday only two of the current candidates in the South Surrey/White Rock riding saw it fit to attend. Liberal candidate ERNIE KLASSEN and Green party rep CHRISTINE KINNIE were the only candidates to meet with the public. JUREUN PARK the newly adopted NDP candidate for our riding and the sitting MP CONSERVATIVE KERRY LYNNE FINDLAY chose to not attend yesterday's meeting at the Presbyterian church in uptown White Rock.

The Naked Truth

Good For The Goose, Good For The Gander

You can tell that spring is here and love is in the air when you see the return of mated pairs of Canada geese to the Semiahmoo peninsula.  Maybe it's because they want to put "White Rock" on their mailing address, but plenty of Canada geese like hanging out in White Rock, spending time in parks, eating people's lawns, pooping everywhere and also nesting on rooftops.  When the goslings are born, the epicenter of the activity always seems to be Southmere Village Park at 16 Ave. and 148 St., or North Bluff Rd. and Oxford St. if on the beach side of the Surrey/White Rock border.  In case you were wondering, Canada geese are monogamous, mate for life and return to the same nesting site every year with lifespans of 10-25 years.  That might explain why their numbers seem to grow here every year.

Unfortunately being a goose in White Rock sometimes means that your goose is cooked and many of these rather large birds get hit by cars when meandering around the neighbourhood.

Joke Of The Day

The teenage granddaughter comes downstairs for her date with this see-through blouse on and no bra. Her grandmother just pitched a fit, telling her not to dare go out like that!

The teenager tells her "Loosen up Grams. These are modern times. You gotta let your rosebuds show!" and out she goes.

The next day the teenager comes downstairs, and the grandmother is sitting there with no top on. The teenager wants to die. She explains to her grandmother that she has friends coming over and that it is just not appropriate...

The grandmother says, "Loosen up, Sweetie. If you can show off your rosebuds, then I can display my hanging baskets.
