Premier CHRISTY CLARK was in Surrey Thursday to address the Surrey Board of Trade. Despite the call by Board of Trade president ANITA HUBERMAN for CLARK to step in and push for a YES vote, as you will see at this point CLARK is content to bounce the ball back to the Mayors Council.

A handful of White Rock and South Surrey residents took time out of their schedules to participate in the travelling road show hosted by the Mayors Council Board who are asking Lower Mainland residents to vote YES in the upcoming referendum which will finance transit expansion over the next decade.
White Rock mayor WAYNE BALDWIN and Surrey councillor JUDY VILLENEUVE joined other panel members to discuss the referendum as well as answer any questions.
The audience was comprised of a 50/50 split of supporters and those not sure about the increased .5 Provincial sales tax. Mayor BALDWIN went a long ways in converting some doubters with his honest straight from the cuff comment.

Did You See Monday's Sunset?
That was the topic around South Surrey/White Rock the past couple of days. Here at THE SUN the stunning photos poured in. The photo above taken out the front yard of MICHELE HERLIY'S home in Ocean Park took the prize. Thank you to everyone who shared their photos. This past month has afforded us the longest running collection of spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
Conversely I am confident you have received a phone call, FACEBOOK posting or an email from a friend in Ontario. If you haven't, feel free to share an email I received from my Old Bastard friend ROY HENNESSEY.

Sex offender arrested nine days after release
After being released from prison, James Conway was ordered not to sit near anyone under the age of 18 on a transit bus. He's accused of breaching his conditions after being arrested on a bus in Surrey this morning. Conway's movements were being monitored and he was seen sitting down net to a 14 year old girl, when there were many other seats available on the bus he boarded in Whalley.

Surrey Board Of Trade Wants Family Day Moved
Surrey Board of Trade CEO Anita Huberman
ANITA HUBERMAN the head of the Surrey Board of Trade is lobbying the Provincial Liberal Government to change British Columbia's FAMILY DAY to the third Monday in February. The date change will coincide with the rest of the Family Days in Canada.
HUBERMAN identified with the rest of the country wide open on the day we celebrate Family Day, it was counter productive as many parents who do work with companies in Eastern Canada did not have time with their families.

Council Coles Notes
- Last evening the majority of council voted to discontinue the time honoured tradition of QUESTION PERIOD. Mayor Baldwin stated he felt the forum and run its course of usefulness. He went on to state residents can interact with any member of council via email, telephone or personal interaction.
Councillors FATHERS and CHESNEY voted in favour of keeping Question Period.

White Rock Means - Never Having To Say You're Surrey

Sunday a small group of citizens of White Rock gathered in Centennial Park to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our Maple Leaf flag,. THE PROVINCE newspaper decided to have some fun with some mock up flags for various communities.
The mock up for our flag was, shall we say, a no brainer.

Tonight at Hemingway's on the White Rock wterfront, JASON BUIE will make his guitar ring. 7-10 p.m.
White Rock has joined the ever growing list of communities that have suspended QUESTION PERIOD from the regularly scheduled council meetings. I can personally name the handful of residents who regularly used QUESTION PERIOD. That is not intended as a slight.
So now that QUESTION PERIOD is gone, how do we communicate as a community? I have an idea.
Bayview Park is a beautiful green space located at the end of West Beach on White Rock's Marine Drive. Since the city bought the land in the 60's a number of upgrades have occurred. The park until two years ago consisted of permanent BBQ stands but were removed as the result of neighbourhood complaints of the associated smells with the BBQ's.
Last year the city of White Rock invested thousands of dollars to create a public plaza, which it now rents out for special occasions including weddings.
Then
Bayview Park at the corner of Marine Drive and Duprez Street at the boat launch on West Beach in White Rock was home to a row of funky little cabins that were rentals from the 1930's to 1967.

Wedding Advice
At my granddaughter's wedding, the DJ polled the guests to see who had been married longest. It turned out to be my husband and I who had been.
The DJ asked us, "What advice would you give to the newly-married couple?"
I said, "The three most important words in a marriage are, 'You're probably right.'"
Everyone then looked at my husband. He said, "She's probably right."
